      May 20th., 2015 the Lithuanian Ambassador to the UK Asta Skaisgirytė presented her letter of credence to the President of Portugal, H.E. Anibal Antonio Cavaco Silva. 

      The meeting has officially concluded the accreditation process in Lisbon and now London serves as the capital through which the Lithuanian links with the Portuguese Republic are maintained. The Ambassador also thanked President Silva for the contribution of the Portuguese Air Force to NATO Baltic air policing mission in Zokniai, Lithuania. Since 2004 the Portuguese fighter jets have been deployed in Lithuania twice with the most recent rotation ending in autumn 2014.

    • CDW2.jpg “DESIGN LITHUANIA 2015 / LONDON“: Lithuanian Design at the “Clerkenwell Design Week” Added2015.05.20

      Four members of the Lithuanian Design Forum are participating in the 6th Clerkenwell Design Week that is taking place 19-21 May. The festival features over 300 exhibiting brands and attracts as many as 32,000 visitors.

      This is the first time that a united group of Lithuanian furniture design companies is presenting its productions at this prestige design festival. The Lithuanian exhibition is housed in one of the cells of the House of Detention, an authentic nineteenth-century former prison, and features as many as 13 pieces of furniture and lights by four different Lithuanian companies. Among them is furniture created by designers I. Malafej and A. Sukarevičius - the Naive chair, a reading chair, and a writing desk awarded with the Red Dot, as well as a carpet created by a Lithuanian designer living in Italy, all presented by Emko. The soft furniture manufacturers Sedes Regia are presenting a furniture collection by a Japanese designer. One of the youngest Lithuanian brands, a designer tandem Ind, is exhibiting concrete-looking papier-mâché chandeliers and a unique clock. The visitors will also get an opportunity to see the Pirst stool, awarded with the national design prize Geras Dizainas, by Kitaip. Each of the participating companies is representing at least one Lithuanian designer and all of the objects have been created over the past five years.

      Last year, the "Meno Parkas" gallery participated at the ART14 London art fair, which attracted more than 31000 visitors, for the first time. The successful "Meno Parkas" debut encouraged for a comeback, and it was enabled by the international jury that accepted the gallery's proposed project. Like last year, “Meno Parkas" is the only Lithuanian gallery participating in this art forum, while a total of over 150 galleries from 40 countries are participating at the fair his year. From Amman to Amsterdam, New York to New Delhi and Sao Paulo to Seoul, the fair will present art from across the globe.

      Bishop Hlib Lonchyna of the Ukrainian Catholic Church will deliver the Address at the Baltic Remembrance Service at St James’s Piccadilly, London, on Sunday 14th June 2015, 3.00 pm. The service, an annual event, commemorates the hundreds of thousands of Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians who were deported to the Soviet Gulags during and after World War II.

      Two more teachers from Balsiu School in Vilnius visited Newcastle in March 2015 to study how schools in the UK deliver the curriculum. The focus of this visit was to study how schools teach English as an additional language (EAL) and also to look at the provision for  children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

      We are happy to announce that Home trip, the award winning urban dance theatre performance from Lithuania, is to be presented at the Dance International Glasgow Festival on Fri 15 & Sat 16 May at 6:30pm at Tramway, 25 Albert Drive, Glasgow, G41 2PE.

      The dance play Home Trip is a moving fusion of urban street dance, theatre, music and literature from Lithuanian Low Air. The 'home' is the childhood home, which we leave and come back to. Time Out magazine listed the play among 'Six things not to miss at Dance International Glasgow.'
