Lithuania called on international community to take concrete steps in solving migratory and humanitarian crises

On 6 October, Chargé d'Affaires of Lithuania in Geneva Mr Donatas Tamulaitis took the floor at the general debate of the 72nd session of the Executive Committee of the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) programme.

    D. Tamulaitis expressed Lithuania‘s continuous support to the UNHCR‘s activities that contribute to the international protection and safeguarding the rights and well-being of refugees and other persons in need of international protection. He stressed the need not only to ensure the humanitarian assistance to those in need, but also to take concrete steps in finding solutions to migratory and humanitarian crises.

In his statement Mr. Tamulaitis also drew the attention to the challenges posed by irregular migration from Belarus to the EU. He called on international community to firmly condemn the instrumentalization of migration that Belarus employs to achieve political ends.
