Le 17 mai, le vice-ministre lituanien des Affaires étrangères Raimundas Karoblis a rencontré le ministre-président de la Région flamande de Belgique Jan Jambon. Lors de leur rencontre, ils ont abordé la mise en œuvre du programme de coopération 2019-2023, fondé sur l’accord de coopération entre les Gouvernements lituanien et flamand, la situation géopolitique de la région, l’aide à l’Ukraine qui subit l’agression militaire de la Russie, la situation en Biélorussie et le soutien à la société civile biélorusse.
Karoblis noted that Lithuania appreciated the attention shown by Flanders since the first days of independence and welcomed the active cooperation in the fields of economic relations, life sciences, industry, ports, and culture. “We see a lot of untapped potential for strengthening cooperation, especially in the high-tech area. Our biotechnology, life sciences and engineering companies are ready to build new partnerships for the benefit of both parties,” said the Foreign Vice-Minister.
As regards Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine, Karoblis said that we must increase support for Ukraine at all levels and increase pressure on Russia, whose military aggression and war crimes violated all principles of morality and international law. According to the Foreign Vice-Minister, we are sparing no effort to widen sanctions on Russia and seeking a favourable decision for Ukraine, i.e., to grant the country a candidate status.
“Undoubtedly, Ukraine is part of the European family. Granting the status of an EU candidate country would be an important sign of our unequivocal support for the people of Ukraine and would help structurize the reconstruction of the country,” Karoblis said.
The Flemish city of Kortrijk is a partner city of Kaunas - the European Capital of Culture 2022.
